Jane, Morris's wife, and his daughter, May, were both skilled at embroidery and implemented many of Morris's designs. May went on to become the Director of the Embroidery Department at Morris & Co.
As the label indicates: the Garden Piece was one of the last works designed and worked by May Morris, embroidered in Wool and silk on linen in 1938.
