William De Morgan Barn Owls and Scrolls

"Owl," said Rabbit shortly, "you and I have brains. The others have fluff. If there is any thinking to be done in this Forest--and when I say thinking I mean thinking -- you and I must do it." ~A.A. Milne, The House at Pooh Corner

William De Morgan did not invent lustre tiles, but he might as well have. He reinvented them newer and better than any that came before. The first red lustre tiles were made at Merton Abbey and he perfected them during his Fulham period, where he introduced other colors.

William De Morgan did several versions of owls, some quite witchy. These reproduction tiles, probably from his Merton Abby period, feature Barn Owls and flying foliage scrolls. Source: WilliamMorristile.com
